Hi there! I’m Amanda Lanford, an artist with a mission to uncover the beauty in unexpected places. My work is all about celebrating creatures that often go unnoticed—or worse, get a bad rap. From the mischievous raccoon to the wide-eyed burrowing owl, I specialize in painting wildlife that might otherwise be dismissed as "pests." These animals are more than just subjects for my art—they’re ambassadors for a message I hold close to my heart: every being has value, no matter how unconventional or overlooked.
Turning Misfits Into Masterpieces
I’ve always been drawn to what others might see as "outsiders." Growing up, I found myself rooting for the underdog, and that passion has translated into my art. My pieces aim to show the hidden charm and importance of animals often excluded from the spotlight. Whether it's a skunk ambling through the forest or a bat navigating the night sky, these creatures are vital threads in the web of life—and they deserve their time to shine.
Over the years, I’ve created themed collections like Trash Animals (featuring raccoons, opossums, and skunks) and Night Flight (owls, ravens, and bats). My current series, Southwest Critters, highlights the rugged beauty of desert wildlife like the hare, mountain lion, and burrowing owl.
Building a Community of Collectors
One of my favorite things about being an artist is connecting with people who resonate with my work. My community includes fellow creatives, wildlife rehabilitators, LGBTQ members, and alternative thinkers who share my appreciation for the overlooked. I love hearing how my art has found a special place in their lives—whether it’s a print brightening up a wall or a blanket providing warmth during cozy evenings.
Through my email newsletter and collector’s group, I keep folks updated on new releases, exclusive deals, and the occasional behind-the-scenes look at my process. My goal is to make my collectors feel like they’re part of something bigger—a movement that celebrates acceptance, creativity, and the courage to embrace the unconventional.
Art That Speaks to the Soul
For me, art isn’t about putting something on a pedestal; it’s about connection. I strive to create pieces that feel relatable, authentic, and deeply human. My own struggles with anxiety and the ups and downs of life often influence my work, reminding me that beauty and strength can be found even in the messiest of moments.
Every brushstroke is a little reminder to myself—and to anyone who sees my work—that it’s okay to be different. In fact, it’s what makes you special.
Beyond the Canvas
When I’m not painting, you can find me brainstorming new products for my shop, chatting with my two (mischievous) cats, Moggy and Binky, or working alongside my husband, who is not only my biggest supporter but also helps me navigate the technical side of running a business. Life is a whirlwind, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Whether you're here because you’re a collector, a wildlife lover, or someone who’s curious about seeing beauty in the unconventional, welcome to my world. I’m so glad you’re here.
Stay creative,
Amanda
